JACK LA LANNE:  AKA François Henri La Lanne Born: 26-Sep-1914
Birthplace: San Francisco, CA
Died: 23-Jan-2011
Location of death: Morro Bay, CA
Cause of death: Pneumonia
Remains: Buried, Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Hollywood Hills, CA
Gender: Male
Race or Ethnicity: White
Sexual orientation: Straight
Occupation: Fitness Guru Nationality: United States
Executive summary: Fitness guru Jack La Lanne was a juvenile delinquent, once attacking his brother with an axe, and setting his family's house on fire. In adulthood, he blamed his youthful misbehavior on being fed too many high-sugar foods. At 15, his mother dragged him to hear a speech by nutritionist Paul Bragg (1895-1976), where La Lanne was inspired to reform his eating habits. He eliminated everything made with white flour or white sugar from his diet, and instead ate almost nothing but fruits, vegetables, and fish for the rest of his life. Healthy foods were hard to find, so La Lanne concocted his own recipes, and by the age of 18 he owned a health-food bakery. At 21, he opened his first gym in Oakland, California. It was 1936, and most doctors at the time warned against working out with weights, believing it could cause a heart attack or ruin a man's sex drive, but as his gym grew into a chain of fitness clubs there were no reports of members dying or losing interest in sex, and La Lanne, first seen as a crackpot, gradually came to be seen as America's foremost authority on fitness. To add variety to his customers' workouts, he devised such now-standard equipment as leg-extension machines and weights on pulleys for lifting. Over subsequent years, he was among the first to produce protein supplements and nutrition bars. Beginning in 1951, La Lanne hosted and produced The Jack La Lanne Show, TV's first workout program. On his show, he performed calisthenics, usually with only a chair or table ledge as 'equipment', while cheerfully pointing at the camera and urging his audience to "Get up, work out, and feel better". At first the show aired only in San Francisco, and La Lanne had to buy the air time, as TV executives were sure nobody would want to watch him do exercises. Within a few years, the program was nationally syndicated on ABC, where millions watched La Lanne do exercises until 1985. After his TV show ended, La Lanne remained in the public eye with a series of fitness stunts, usually performed on his birthday. In 1955, he swam from Alcatraz to San Francisco, while wearing handcuffs. In 1991, for his 70th birthday, he swam a mile while shackled to 70 boats carrying 70 people. Even in his 90s, La Lanne remained in good health, selling juicers in TV infomercials and working out two hours every day -- an hour in the gym, and an hour in the pool. He said he had not missed a day of workouts -- or had a sugary dessert -- since 1930. "I don't care how old I live", he once said, "I just want to be living while I am living!" He was 96 when he died of respiratory failure brought about by pneumonia, in 2011. According to media reports, he was clutching an exercise weight in his bed when he passed away.

Dangerous levels of metal.

Report: Protein Drinks Have Unhealthy Metals Consumer Reports Study Finds Worrisome Levels of Lead, Cadmium, and Other Metals.

June 3, 2010 -- Popular protein drinks with names like Muscle Milk and EAS Myoplex -- favorites of teens, gym rats, boomers, and pregnant women -- can contain potentially unsafe levels of heavy metals and other harmful substances, according to an investigation by Consumer Reports.

''Consuming these kinds of protein drinks on a regular basis can in some cases create the risk of chronic exposure, even at low levels, to heavy metals such as cadmium and lead that can pose health problems, particularly to vulnerable people," says Andrea Rock, the Consumer Reports editor for the investigation. Among vulnerable people are children under age 18, pregnant women, and people with diabetes or chronic kidney conditions, she says.

Makers of protein drinks disagreed and said there were flaws in the investigation.

While the protein drinks are marketed as convenient, Rock says, "Most people can meet their protein needs through diet. And that can be better for both your health and your wallet.''

Testing for contaminants -- including arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury -- found most products to be in the low to moderate range. But three products cause concern, Rock says, because people who have three servings a day could be exposed to higher levels of three substances -- arsenic, cadmium and lead. Some products surpass the maximum limit  proposed by the U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP). The USP sets voluntary standards for health products.

Excess cadmium can accumulate and gather in the kidneys, and excess protein can also damage the kidneys.

Protein drinks are considered dietary supplements, so the makers are not required to test the products before sale to ensure they are safe and effective, according to the report.

  • EAS Myoplex Original Rich Dark Chocolate Shake has an average of 16.9 micrograms of arsenic in three servings -- more than the 15 micrograms a day that is the proposed USP limit. It has an average of 5.1 micrograms of cadmium for three servings -- above the USP limit of 5 micrograms a day.
  • Muscle Milk chocolate powder, at three servings, contained all four of the metals, and three metals were found at a level that was among the highest of all 15 products tested. Cadmium levels were 5.6 micrograms -- above the 5-microgram limit. Lead was 13.5 micrograms -- above the USP limit of 10 micrograms. The arsenic averaged 12.2 micrograms -- near the 15-microgram daily USP limit.
  • Muscle Milk vanilla crème had 12.2 micrograms of lead per three servings -- above the 10-microgram daily limit. It has 11.2 micrograms of arsenic -- close to the 15-microgram daily limit.
Just one of the products, Six Star Muscle Professional Strength Whey Protein, specifies a maximum daily intake, Rock found. Other makers use vague language, the researchers say, which could promote high consumption levels.

THE ISSUE:
Toxins are everywhere – in the foods we eat, the air we breathe and the ground we walk on. These toxins build up in our body and may contribute to weight gain, loss of overall energy and poor skin tone, among other detrimental effects. In recent years, more attention has been given to detoxification or cleansing, and for good reason. Contaminants such as air pollution, cigarette smoke, radiation and carbon monoxide found in our everyday environment greatly influence our health and well-being. Furthermore, since the typical American diet is filled with processed foods, which are more often bought at the nearest fast food restaurant rather than made at home, what we eat also adds to our concerns.

Over time, these toxins may affect our health and digestion. In the long term, the ability to absorb the foods and nutrients we consume daily can become diminished. When this happens, individuals no longer receive the full benefit of their daily diet. Every day, a person's diet should provide essential nutrients to keep that individual performing at peak effectiveness. Proper absorption of nutrients such as carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals is essential to maintaining a healthy body. However, periodic lifestyle changes may generate the need for a “fresh start” to regain a healthy balanced nutrition routine with a solution that will also help other AdvoCare products you take once again reach their full potential.

THE SOLUTION: Herbal Cleanse System

In my thought process chiro's would be your best ref. when it comes to being a trainer, because they know the importance of a stronge back.

Why Do Back Exercises? Note: If you have a back injury or current back pain read: Post-injury exercise page first.

Weak Muscles Increase the Risk of Back Pain Weak muscles are often at the root of back pain, especially lower back pain. The muscles of the back, the abdomen, and the buttocks all support the spine - these muscles are called the core muscles.

Muscles are the spine's main defense against gravity. Strengthening the muscles that support the spine with exercises, can prevent, reduce and in some cases eliminate back pain.

Strong abdominal muscles (especially the deep abs) are as crucial as strong back muscles for supporting the lower back and preventing lower back pain. Strong quadriceps (front of thigh muscles) is important to prevent back injuries when lifting. Proper lifting techniques involve using your legs and if your legs are weak, you may end up using your back.

Shortened Muscles Cause Back Pain Shortened muscles can throw the spine out of alignment and cause back pain. Stretching exercises lengthen shortened muscles and relieve back pain. Tight back muscles, tight buttocks muscles, tight muscles in the front of the hip and even tight quadriceps (front of thigh muscles) or tight hamstrings (back of thigh muscles) can affect the alignment of the spine. Stretching the back with stretching exercises also increases mobility of the joints of the spine.

Strong and flexible muscles help maintain Proper Posture and prevent Back Strain.

Check with your physician before doing back exercises if you have back pain, a back condition or other medical condition. Warm up the muscles with 5 minutes of light aerobics such as walking or riding a stationary bike before either stretching or strengthening exercises to reduce the risk of injury.

Stretching or Strengthening Exercises First? Stretching after strengthening exercises helps relieve the muscle tightness that can occur from strengthening exercises and may be more beneficial that stretching before strengthening exercise. However it is largely a matter of personal preference - stretching and strengthening exercises can also each be done on separate days if desired. Remember to warm up first.

Do Not hold your breath! Holding your breath can cause a spike in blood pressure! Concentrate on breathing while exercising.

Back Anatomy The Spinal Column: The spinal column (also called the vertebral column) contains and protects the spinal cord and supports the body and head. The spinal column is flexible to allow movement of the body.

The spinal column is comprised of a column of small bones called vertebrae.

Shock absorbing discs separate the vertebrae.

Vertebrae:

The 24 vertebrae are named according to their location along the spine. We start out with 33 vertebrae but the lowest nine fuse together to form single bones- 5 fused vertebrae form the sacrum and 4 tiny fused vertebrae form the coccyx (tailbone).

The 24 True or Movable Vertebrae: Cervical spine (neck area) with 7 vertebrae (labeled C1 - C7)

Thoracic spine (chest area) with 12 vertebrae (labeled T1 - T12)

Lumbar spine (lower back) with 5 vertebrae (labeled L1 - L5)

Fused Vertebrae (Below the lumbar spine):

Sacrum: a triangular shaped solid base with 5 fused vertebrae - connects with the pelvis

Coccyx: (the tailbone) with 4 very small fused vertebrae.

Kimberly:My daughter is ten and is type 1. Her insulin intake has been cut in half by eating raw. We've only been eating raw now for 13 days and my entire family is speechless.

Melissa:I am a part-time raw vegan. I love raw food. I commend you for trying to eat healthier and help improve their life living with diabets. A lot of diabetics I know just aren't there yet. They need a boost and a jump start if you will on their thinking. One book I have come across is http://diabetesdoneright.com/ has helped so many change the way they think and live about their diabetes. Maybe then, they will be able to do more, like eating raw. I have some great recipes by the way.

Mollyjade:Type 2 diabetes can be reversed, but it can't be cured. If these people begin eating the way they were before, their diabetes will come back. For something to truly be a cure, it would have to mean that they can eat like the general population. Not everyone who eats an unhealthy diet develops diabetes. It's good to remember that there are other factors involved besides diet.

As far as insulin goes, some type 2 diabetics take it to manage their diabetes. Until someone develops a way to regrow or replace beta cells in the pancreas, type 1 diabetics will always have to take insulin.

Paul lacarrubba:30 years a chef i ate my way into type 2 diabeties almost lost a leg great modavation to go vegan 5 weeks later I'm off my meds and feel great going vegan raw is only as hard as you make it. The first 2 weeks are tough but my eyes and feet are worth it.

PART 1 – Your Spartan Body: The ancients Spartans took PRIDE in having fit, muscular, lean and athletic bodies.

They actually laughed at other peoples who tried to look attractive by wearing fancy clothes and expensive decorations. For they believed it was the physical vitality and fitness of a person that made them stand out, not lavish dress.

How true!

You see it all the time. People in the worst physical shape trying to make up for it by wearing expensive designer clothes with a heap of “bling bling” jewellery for decoration.

Louis Bryant

Life is too short to be average. It’s too short to live the soft, unfit, overweight unhealthy life of the average modern human. But there is another way.

You can chose to live as a modern Spartan . . .

You can decide to be lean, fit and strong your whole life. To build real health. To be proud of your physical body. To develop mental toughness. To be capable of defending yourself and your family.

I’ve called this blog I Am Spartan because that’s the motto I’ve chosen to live by. A powerful and private statement to myself. I’m hoping this blog will help motivate and educate others but it’s also to help motivate myself and keep myself and my students on track . . . on our chosen Spartan Paths.

Do you suffer from a toxic colon? According to some estimates, over 50 million people in America suffer from some kind of bowel problem, which are often related to an unhealthy colon.

.

What is really killing  off your "friendly" flora? well for those that don't know what know what flora is it is your good bacteria in the large intestine.
The deadly waste and fecal matter that's
ROTTING INSIDE YOU!
In the old days, people had a bowel movement about an hour after they ate. It's true. These days, food stays in your body for three or four days because you digestive tract has a hard time breaking down modern food. Or even a few days later, if your constipated. So whats happens? IT ROTS.
Even if you have a regular. daily bowel movement, you could have months and even YEARS of decayed
waste built up inside your colon. Autopies show that most people have a good 10-12 pounds of it in their colons.
*Hard balls of old, rotting food packed into our colon walls. making it bulge out. Food can't pass through. It sits inside you and ROTS!
*Bad bacteria love to feast on decaying mounds. They multiply and kill off your good bacteria.
*You suffer from cramping, bloating and gas!
*Stool becomes a struggle to pass.
